FormSound is a novel particle-based audiovisual interface that is based on a group formation control technique in computer graphics and an additive sound synthesis technique. It allows a user to not only manipulate the color, and radius of particles but also directly specify and morph the arrangement shape of particles. FormSound generates a particular sound by mainly using the angles, distances and density information in a particle formation. By suggesting the use of the particle formation control technique and our unique sound mapping strategy, we believe FormSound has a strong potential as a musical instrument.
